Legal Librarian skills are in demand!
I’ve had several conversations over the last two weeks with clients in the legal sector who are running ever busier information teams.
Now is a great time to be a legal librarian, the core skills are in increasing demand within law firms and information teams are more integral than ever to their firms success.
Increasingly teams are also becoming much busier handling business research requests including, sector analysis, competitor and market intelligence. Finding the right mix of skills in law firm research departments is becoming increasingly complex as part of the team may be tasked with core librarianship tasks whilst also having to find innovative ways to conduct deep analysis and insight projects sometimes even to the extent that some coding experience with large data sets is required.
This increase in the need for business research & analysis skills has been reflected in CB Resourcing’s Legal Information Skills benchmark carried out earlier this year and presented at the 2018 BIALL conference.
We’ve seen a number of approaches to this including hiring externally, creating separate market intelligence functions as well as external training.
If you’re also experiencing these challenges we’d be very happy to hear from you.
