Knowledge Leadership Network – AI

Recent discussions with leaders in knowledge management from law, consulting, banking and private equity on AI.

  • Typically knowledge teams play a key role on AI steering groups alongside technology leadership, data governance, product and senior leadership.
  • Most firms are implementing templated point solutions to address particular repetitive tasks.
  • There is a big role for knowledge leadership in educating leadership on the challenges with AI both from a governance perspective as well as the reality of vendor and competitor claims.
  • For smaller knowledge teams this is an opportunity to enrich the knowledge offering by freeing up capacity from repetitive work.
  • Many legacy technology stacks are not well setup to apply AI to internal knowledge bases.
  • It is not yet clear where the biggest time savings will occur however the direction of travel is towards teams being employed on high value work with less need for transactional content tagging.
  • In environments dealing with sensitive client data it’s not going to be as simple as just turning on MS co-pilot.

Our thoughts:

  • This is a natural next step in the productisation of professional services.
  • Professional services will adapt pricing models to better reflect value vs the legacy billable hour.
  • The biggest challenge is going to be talent. How do we upskill staff for these new tools as well as train staff when the routine tasks that offered experiential learning are being automated away so quickly?
