Information Management is a crucial role in many organisations today.  It is the process of researching, gathering, organizing, storing and providing information within an organization These activities increasingly involve working with systems, some roles specialize in the storage design and findability of information which involves development of metadata standards, information architecture and taxonomy groups.  It can involve creating policies for information governance and training end users in information literacy or on information systems.

This role is usually carried out by an Information Professional or Librarian and can be delivered in a number of sectors including law, banking, professional services, medical/pharmaceutical companies.  Many professionals hold specialized qualifications and are members of professional bodies such as Chartered Institute of Librarians and Information Professionals (CILIP) or SLA.
