Practice Development Specialist - Law - London

A leading international law firm has a new requirement for a Practice Development Specialist to join their firm and align to the firms financial practice areas. The role will focus on providing support, management and engagement with knowledge sharing initiatives, research and innovation tools. The position is one in which there are a number of close relationships with key stakeholders and stakeholder groups. On a daily basis the role works most closely with the Practice Development Lawyer and Practice Development Manager, but will also have close relationships with the Knowledge Solutions team, Research and Information, Business Development and Learning and Development. It is a role that would be well suited to Knowledge and Information professionals at the early stage of their career, or to those who are more established and seeking a new challenge. A Paralegal aligned to KM would also be extremely well positioned for this requirement.

In this Practice Development Specialist role, the key objectives and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Practice Development Lawyer and Practice Development Manager to help deliver a range of services aimed at developing and supporting the practice
  • Maintenance of knowledge tools and know-how repositories, such as iManage and SharePoint to ensure that content is both current and relevant 
  • Providing a point of contact for enquiries on the firm’s precedents and know-how
  • Supporting the continuous development of the firms innovation offering around legal technology products, automation, AI, and project management tools
  • Provide and maintain current awareness for monitoring legal and market developments
  • Playing an active role in the delivery of knowledge training to Practice Groups in the firm
  • Partnering with the global Knowledge Solutions team to develop and maintain knowledge channels such as portal pages, Practice Sites, Matter Management tools
  • Engaging with other support functions such Library & Information Services, Business Development and Learning & Development to deliver the firms overarching KM strategy

To be a suitable candidate for this Practice Development Specialist, a mix of the following skills and experience is required:

  • Prior experience working in a legal, research or professional services organization
  • Experience or a demonstrable understanding of the key principles of information services, research and knowledge/content management
  • An interest in knowledge management, research and innovation and an aptitude for the application of technology in these areas
  • Some previous experience in the use of KM related tools and systems
  • The ability to work with a degree of autonomy as well as collaboratively as part of a team and with wider stakeholder groups
  • Highly developed communication, stakeholder management and relationship building skills
  • An ability to organise and prioritise tasks and manage stakeholder needs
  • Educated to degree level, a related qualification in Libraries or Information Management would be particularly beneficial
