Part time role! An independent institution requires a Librarian and Information Manager to lead the development of digital services for their research departments while managing and maintaining access to the institution’s existing collections of books and manuscripts. The Librarian and Information Manager will take the lead in developing, delivering, and managing the library management system, the Digital Collections, and the digital resources already available to research staff. This newly created role is in recognition of the need for the organisation to develop further services in support of the research teams, as well as managing and preserving the organisation’s born-digital research outputs and institutional records.

This is an exciting and varied role liaising with the research groups, membership of the research committee, and working with a significant library, archive, and institutional collections. The role provides an opportunity to develop the Library and information provision in parity with other research libraries.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assume overall responsibility for the management and operations of the Library, including the development of resources and services.
  • Management of a portfolio of purchased and subscription research resources.
  • Procurement and reporting on resources expenditure.
  • Management of user enquiries for research resource content access.
  • Promote resource usage and using analytics to inform decisions.
  • Oversee all aspects of collections care, management, and development.
  • Assume responsibility for the Library's Special Collections.
  • Develop and implement Library policies and strategies and contribute to institute-wide direction.
  • Manage all aspects of access to the collections and external engagement.

To be considered for this role you will need the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant experience with library research resources.
  • Familiarity with common library systems and practices.
  • Experience in researcher support and digital working.
  • Knowledgeable about current sector challenges.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, members, and external researchers, to provide effective services through confident relationship management skills.
  • Excellent IT skills with current experience of MS Office online, web-based information retrieval systems, and experience of analysing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data to evidence decision-making.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
