A highly respected, national law firm requires a Knowledge & Information Officer to join their expanding Knowledge Management and Research Team. The KM team works across all parts of the business, helping to turn data and information into insight to support their clients.  This team focuses on undertaking both legal and also some degree of business research, aligned to multiple practice areas.  Working closely with Professional Support Lawyers, as well as undertaking research, the KM Team also helps manage the firm’s extensive programme of current awareness and horizon scanning, as well as a wide variety of third party database and knowledge systems.  This role has the potential to work almost entirely from home with some occasional travel to the firms Bristol, Manchester, or Glasgow office locations. In addition, there is also the capacity for someone looking for limited hours to join.

In this Knowledge and Research Officer role, the responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking predominantly legal research to provide support with client matters and business development activities
  • Providing a current awareness service across all practice areas
  • Building a strong network with staff at all levels across the organisation to advise and encourage the sharing and use of knowledge
  • Harvesting know how within specific practice and sector groups
  • Raising awareness and delivering training on knowledge and information resources
  • Liaising with and supporting the practice group Professional Support Lawyers
  • Working together with other members of the team to support knowledge projects

To be considered for this role you will need the following skills and experience:

  • Experience undertaking legal research, preferably gained in a legal or professional services setting
  • This role could suit someone at the beginning of their career as an information professional as well as some with experience
  • A degree or equivalent professional experience in Research, Information / Knowledge Management, Librarianship would be beneficial
  • The ability to develop a good understanding of the work of the legal practice areas to appreciate internal clients' information needs
  • Confident and familiar in undertaking online research
  • Prior experience and familiarity with company information and legal databases
  • Have the ability to manage demanding workloads and to deadlines
  • Have exceptional time management, planning, and organisational skills, a methodical approach, and a keen eye for detail
  • Be able to build a credible reputation as a trusted advisor on information-related matters
  • Candidates must have excellent written and spoken English, in particular, an ability to summarise and analyse large amounts of information
  • Ability to work using own initiative and as a team member, maintaining a professional positive attitude at all times is essential
