Head of Web and Mobile Applications - Higher Education

A leading South East based University has an opportunity for an experienced web and mobile applications professional. The role works within a very large and complex IT function and will assume responsibility for the delivery and product management of a portfolio of applications encompassing mobile apps, the intranet and outwardly facing websites. This would suit a candidate looking for their first steps into a more strategic role, or alternatively, a leader who still enjoys pitching in as a developer from time to time. The role is based on the Surrey/London border, but could suit someone that based further afield who is happy to occasionally commute to site.

The primary objectives and responsibilities in the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Assuming responsibility for the delivery of both development and support services aligned a portfolio of web and mobile applications
  • Managing an established team of 4 that are focused on front end delivery and integrations
  • Operating within an Enterprise Applications leadership team comprising of 5 peers
  • Being a technical authority around web and mobile applications, middleware and integrations
  • Undertaking supplier management, architecture, incident management and horizon scanning

To be a suitable candidate for the role, applicants will need a strong mix of the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role such as a Senior Developer, team lead or delivery management role
  • Broad development experience across web and mobile, middleware, integrations and application/service design
  • The ability to lead and mentor a small, but established team of developers
  • Managing multiple concurrent projects 
  • Experienced in the management of vendors and supplier relationships
  • Horizon scanning and building business cases for investment in new technology that delivers value to the organisation
  • Ideally, a related degree or qualification, but candidates qualified by experience will be equally considered for the role

Please note that in addition to the base salary. The successful candidate will benefit from annual leave entitlement of approximately 33 days and employer pension contributions of approximately 13%
