Head of Information and Research Services – Law                    Recruiter: Tim Palmer       

One of the worlds biggest law firms is seeking a visionary and strategic individual to assume the role of Head of Information and Research Services. This is a pan-European role that will work with the Director of Knowledge to create a unified framework for the delivery of all research services, to drive collaboration across borders and functions, implement robust systems and process around information acquisitions and drive a continuous improvement culture. Please note that this role could be based out of multiple European locations.

The core responsibilities and objectives include but are not limited to:

  • Operating at primarily a strategic level in conjunction with the Director Knowledge to create a vision for Information and Research Services and execute on strategy.
  • Create a unified framework for the delivery of all business and legal research services encompassing multiple European locations
  • Create and develop robust processes and budgetary controls for the procurement and acquisition of information resources and assets
  • Developing and enhancing a culture of collaboration between information and research teams located across multiple and geographically dispersed locations
  • Driving firmwide engagement with the information and research function, developing capability, learning and underpinning these strategies by developing a culture that strives for continuous improvement
  • Being a highly credible focal point for research and information within key stakeholder community of the firm
  • Assuming a close working relationship with the Director of Knowledge to ensure the strategy is consistent with the overarching Knowledge Management objectives

Suitable candidates for this Head of Research and Information Services require the following experience and skills.

  • An information professional with a demonstrable track record operating at a strategic level and within a complex legal or professional services environment, almost certainly at an international level
  • A deep understanding of KM/IM strategy and in particular with a view to the implications around retaining and developing a competitive advantage
  • A visionary mindset and the ability to execute on strategies that encompass culture, process, collaboration and cost control
  • The ability to navigate a complex stakeholder environment, to build credibility and develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • The ability to indirectly lead, motivate and inspire multiple and geographically dispersed teams of information professionals
  • A deep understanding of the use of technology as part of KM/IM strategy
