Head of Legal Tech and Innovation - Law - London

A prestigious international law firm with a UK presence in Central London and multiple other global sites has a newly created requirement for a Head of Legal Technology and Innovation. This is a new role in the firm and one with a global remit to drive the firms legal technology offering.
At present, this firm is in a position where they have a number of teams and individuals working with legal and innovation technology tools and products, but one of the principal objectives will be to unify these functions and to design/deliver an overarching legal tech and innovation strategy. Another key objective will be to provide a centralised function to establish needs and platform for cultivate and assess ideas and ways in which the firm can innovate.
The successful candidate for this role will have an evenly balanced set of skills around people/relationship management and the adoption of technology. 

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote and embed an innovation pathway programme, be a core member of a legal tech steering group and help support ideas through conception to delivery
  • Manage the full life cycle of new technology engagement within the legal teams and business functions
  • Identification of opportunities for automation and digitisation of processes into solutions 
  • Collaborating with lawyers and legal professionals to understand and address their needs from a legal technology perspective
  • Work independently and confidently in first contact situations with all parts of our business to identify opportunities to innovate, improve efficiencies or create new client solutions utilising existing and new technology solutions
  • Building or establishing relationships with existing and new providers, horizon scanning and conducting research around trends and competitors
  • Contribute to a global IT strategy and roadmap ensuring business cases for technology are well developed, achievable and address all elements of new technology deployments including challenges around change and adoption
  • Working with the Technology training teams to create training sessions for lawyers and other professionals on tools and platforms 
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements including data privacy and working with our in-house Risk function
  • Developing partnerships, alliances and strong working relationships with stakeholders across the firm

To be suitable for this role, candidates will require the following skills and experience:

  • Prior experience in a similar role within legal technology, preferably gained in a legal, professional services or complex corporate environment
  • As a new role within the firm, it is essential to be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a hands on, tactical and strategic capacity
  • A high level understanding of the legal technology landscape, key technology partners and the how similar organisations are applying legal technology
  • A business leader with the ability to forge internal and external relationships, drive projects and programmes and to lead and mentor technology teams
  • Demonstrable experience of product evaluation, selection, negotiation, and implementation of legal tech solutions
