We are recruiting for a prestigious law firm that is committed to leveraging data to drive strategic decisions and enhance operational efficiency. This global firm values innovation, integrity, and a collaborative approach to business challenges. The data governance team are a critical part of their AI strategy and this role involves dealing with a wide range of senior stakeholders including partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise closely with Data Stewards to understand their data needs and lead Data Stewardship Council meetings.
  • Drive the metadata import and curation process within the Data Management Technology (DMT), focusing on resolving relevant business issues.
  • Design and build content for the data catalogue, including metadata models and workflows.
  • Develop and maintain business process and data lineage areas within the DMT, supporting their utilisation by the Data Governance Framework teams.
  • Analyse business processes to identify opportunities for data management and analytics improvements.
  • Support the creation of user stories, use cases, and functional requirements to optimise data capture, processing, and analysis.
  • Conduct gap analysis to identify shortcomings in existing data management systems relative to business needs.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing to ensure the Data Management Technology aligns with business requirements.
  • Create detailed documentation for the data catalogue, including data definitions, source details, transformation rules, and usage guidelines.
  • Maintain Data Governance assets such as Business Glossary, Data Dictionary, Reference Data List, and Business Process Maps within the DMT.
  • Develop and deliver training on DMT and Data Stewardship, maintaining up-to-date training materials.
  • Support initiatives to develop a central reference list repository, adopting external standards like SALI or NosLegal.
  • Define and manage data domains to ensure consistency and data integrity aligned with business objectives.
  • Implement and monitor data quality standards to ensure high accuracy and completeness of data assets.
  • Contribute to the firm-wide Umbrella Data Strategy by supporting projects that empower Data Stewards and address data issues.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • Ambition to develop a career in Data Governance and shape emerging data capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex business challenges.
  • Knowledge of data management, governance, and analytics best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to bridge business and technical teams.
  • Proactive self-management skills with the ability to work within fast-paced, demanding environments.
  • Attention to detail, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Business report writing experience, including drafting user stories, use cases, and functional requirements.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of metadata management concepts, tools, modelling, and standards is advantageous.
