Research Librarian – 12 months FTC - Law - London
A leading international law firm is seeking a Research Librarian to join its Research, Information & Intelligence function on a maternity cover contract for 12 months. The firm has a strong focus on innovation and operates a global research service that supports lawyers and business teams across multiple jurisdictions. This role plays an important part in delivering high‑quality legal, business and intelligence research to internal stakeholders and contributes to wider initiatives within the information function.
Working as part of a well‑connected global team, you’ll respond to a wide range of enquiries, produce tailored research outputs, and support the development and promotion of research services across the firm.
The primary objectives and responsibilities in this Research Librarian role include, but are not limited to:
- Providing domestic and international legal, business and intelligence research for lawyers and business services colleagues
- Delivering customised research outputs, using both traditional methods and emerging GenAI tools
- Advising on sources and search strategies, and delivering training on research tools when needed
- Promoting the work of the Research, Information & Intelligence team across the firm
- Participating in local and global team calls, and staying current with a wide range of online research resources
- Developing and maintaining current awareness alerts on legal developments, company news and emerging topics
- Assisting with project work, administrative tasks and print collection maintenance
To be a suitable candidate for this Research Librarian role, you will need a strong mix of the following:
- A degree and/or postgraduate qualification in Librarianship, Information Studies or a related area — or significant equivalent experience
- At least one year’s experience in a legal, professional services or commercial research environment
- Experience using library catalogues and an understanding of copyright principles
- A good grasp of knowledge and information management concepts
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present research clearly in writing, visually or verbally
- Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
- The ability to work well with stakeholders at all levels, manage competing priorities and balance independent work with being part of a team
