A global law firm requires a Research Analyst to join their team that provides business and legal research support to EMEA based at their Leeds office. The Research Analyst role is core to the team’s work and will focus on business research, competitor intelligence and insight. You will work closely with business development, marketing and will also help to keep the firm’s lawyers up to speed on developments you unearth through regular briefings. The scope of this role is very broad with great opportunity to develop deep knowledge in sectors that match your interests and experience. You will also have regular interaction with the firm’s lawyers, business developments teams and other internal clients and you will be given significant autonomy to take personal responsibility and to work under your own initiative to deliver effectively the research support needed. There is also some flexibility around core working hours. 

Main responsibilities include:

  • conducting business research
  • establishing a business research knowledge base through researching and monitoring clients, their sectors and markets
  • developing and maintaining profiles based on research
  • keeping the firm’s lawyers updated on developments through regular briefings 
  • working with lawyers and business development teams to provide research input for projects, events and training
  • assessing and prioritising requests to ensure they are handled in the most appropriate way
  • delegating requests to more junior members of the team or the relevant specialist
  • undertaking the research yourself or manage and co-ordinate how to fulfil a complex request

To be considered for this role you will need the following skills and experience:

  • strong research skills and experience of using major legal and business digital research resources
  • can think critically and analytically, undertake research methodically, with the ability to summarise and abstract 
  • commercially astute with a solution-oriented approach to work
  • able to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  • a self-starter who can work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • be able to build strong working relationships in both physical and virtual teams
  • be responsible for your own self-development to ensure your knowledge and skills remain current, commercial and reflects best practice
  • have a genuine interest in international affairs and the impact of these on the business and legal environment
  • have a general awareness of economic, financial and general business concepts 
  • excellent communication skills
