A prestigious and unique law library situated in Northern Ireland has exciting new opportunities for two Library & Legal Research Assistants. These roles are due to commence in early December. Working as part of the LIS team, the successful candidates will support users of the library and ensure that a professional and first class front line service is delivered to meet the very specific and specialist information needs of its members.

Responsibilities include:

  • assisting with legal research enquiries in accordance with the library's procedures in an efficient and accurate manner using hard copy and online resources
  • collating and indexing legal material
  • procuring and processing material
  • administering the members' subscription service
  • administering the current awareness service
  • data entry onto the library database and website
  • actively promoting all aspects of the library service to the membership ensuring they're kept informed of services available and how these may benefit them
  • keeping abreast of topical legislation and justice developments
  • obtaining materials from external sources as required and complying with copyright restrictions
  • accurately updating loose leaf volumes
  • repairing books and organising binding/rebinding of the collection as required, ensuring high quality material
  • providing a welcoming reception service to members and other visitors

In order to be considered for these roles applicants will need:

  • a minimum of 1 year's experience of working in a specialist library, professional services environment or information service (experience of working within a law library and having an understanding of legal process and legal materials would be advantageous) or as a paralegal in a law firm/solicitor’s office or chambers
  • exacting attention to detail
  • the ability to extract key information needed to progress legal research enquiries
  • excellent customer service skills
  • proven analytical skills
  • the ability to demonstrate an orderly and disciplined approach to the presentation of information
  • tact and diplomacy and be able to perform well under pressure
  • a minimum of 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at grade C or above
  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • thorough working knowledge of MS Office applications, online databases and internet research
