A highly respected national law firm has an opportunity for an experienced information professional with refined legal research skills to join their Research function. This is a great opportunity to work at the heart of a forward‑looking knowledge function, supporting lawyers, Knowledge Lawyers, and business services teams with high‑quality insight and research.
The role works closely with the Research Manager (Legal) and contributes to the delivery of legal research across all practice groups, supports key firmwide projects, and helps strengthen the firm’s insight offering to its strategic clients. The role also supports in developing and promoting digital resources, enabling stakeholders to maximise the tools available, and building trusted relationships across the firm. 
The role is predominantly remote and will be attached to one of the firms offices in either Scotland, Birmingham, Bristol or Manchester.

In this Legal Researcher role, the core objectives and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide legal research support across the firm’s practice areas.
  • Handle a variety of research enquiries from lawyers and business services teams.
  • Support the management of information resources, including procurement, renewals, usage tracking, and cataloguing.
  • Help promote and optimise online research tools, including coordinating supplier training.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining team resources on the firm’s intranet.
  • Deliver training to new joiners, trainees, and teams on research tools and processes.
  • Review and refine core workflows, ensuring documentation stays accurate and up to date.
  • Provide cover for colleagues to maintain seamless research service delivery.

Suitable candidates for this Legal Researcher role will need a strong mix of the following:

  • Experience in an Information Services role, with strong knowledge of legal research resources.
  • Confident handling legal research enquiries across multiple subject areas.
  • Excellent understanding of key legal and business databases, plus strong open‑source research skills.
  • Background in library resource management (evaluation, purchasing, cataloguing, archiving, renewals).
  • Comfortable working with budgets, procurement processes, and supplier negotiations.
  • Experience using library management systems.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage shifting priorities.
  • Collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and contributing to a supportive, inclusive culture.
  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in a library or information discipline is desirable.
