Law Librarian - Law - Belfast
An international law firm requires a Librarian to join its established team in Belfast. The library supports all offices through the purchase and management of information resources – in print and online. The Librarian is part of the team providing access to information resources for individuals and libraries across the firm. This is a varied role and will cover a range of activities including: Acquisitions, cataloguing, processing and collection maintenance, managing the UK learning and development collections, supporting and promoting the library management system (LMS), and current awareness.
Main responsibilities include:
- Classifying print and online resources according to standards and schemes for different offices.
- Maintain and develop cataloguing, classification, and authority control lists including subject taxonomies and resource lists
- Processing and distribution of physical items to all offices
- Researching print and online resources including pricing and online access models
- Working with Practice Librarians and stakeholders to ensure items are identified, ordered, and distributed.
- Ensuring the correct authorisations are obtained for all purchases
- Negotiating multi-buy discounts with suppliers
- Updating library management system (LMS) records
- Compiling subject specific lists of current or prospective resources in response to internal and external client requests
- Management of subscription renewal process for print and some online resources, working with stakeholders to ensure subscriptions are reviewed and processed.
- Support and promote library management system (LMS)
To be considered for this Law Librarian role you will need the following skills and experience:
- 3+ years’ experience in an information or library environment, preferably including acquisitions, subscription management and/or cataloguing tasks
- Technical expertise in the use of software and online products such as SharePoint, MS Office, automated library management systems (LMS), eBooks and eJournals is essential.
- Contract or licence management experience desirable
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience of delivering training, both remotely and in person
- Excellent all round communication skills, both oral and written
