Knowledge and Research Manager - Law - North-West England
A highly regarded multinational law firm that has headquarters in North-West England has a requirement for Knowledge and Research Manager to join their team. The role is responsible for the delivery of research/library services, but more importantly, enabling lawyers to work smarter and more efficiently through the ongoing development and management of robust knowledge infrastructure and governance services. The role works closely with legal tech and innovation and successful candidate will benefit from considerable buy-in at leadership level on initiatives that will take this function forward. The position offers considerable flexibility, but there is an expectation to be on site in Liverpool once or twice per week. 

In this Knowledge and Research Management requirement, the primary objectives and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a small research and library team that is very self-managing
  • Focus on the delivery and continuous improvement of a research, library and current awareness provision
  • Manage a departmental budget of circa £1.5m 
  • Assume responsibility for the continued development of a robust knowledge infrastructure and governance across precedents, know-how and document templates
  • Oversee document management best-practice with a particular focus on Word templates and in-house styles
  • Supporting on document automation
  • Collaborate with Legal Tech and Innovation on knowledge sharing initiatives and technology
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to develop the team, firm-wide information literacy and efficiency gains offered by emerging technologies such as AI 

To be a suitable candidate for this Knowledge and Information Manager role, you will require the following experience and skills.

  • Considerable experience across both Knowledge and Information Services disciplines, ideally gained in a legal setting
  • Experience in a management, leadership or supervisory capacity
  • A strategic and continuous improvement mindset is essential
  • An expert on knowledge infrastructure and governance.  
  • Document management expertise and in particular in-house and Word templates and styles.
  • Proficient in a range of technologies that underpin knowledge management such as SharePoint, iManage and Litera Create
  • Document Automation experience would be highly desirable, but is not essential.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills
  • A qualified information professional

It is worth noting that for this role, it is not an expectation that candidates will fulfil all aspects of the job specification (provided on request) but there will be an expectation that the successful applicant will be a fast learner and will benefit from handover period.
