We are working with a highly regarded global law firm committed to innovative data management and leveraging data-driven strategies to gain a competitive advantage. This organisation values collaboration, integrity, and excellence, providing a dynamic environment for growth and development. The data governance team are a critical part of their AI strategy and this role involves dealing with a wide range of senior stakeholders including Partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, adoption, and ongoing management of the firm’s Data Governance Framework.
  • Liaise closely with Data Stewards to understand their data needs and participate in Data Stewardship Council meetings.
  • Assist in metadata import, curation, and maintenance within Data Management Technology (DMT), focusing on resolving business issues.
  • Analyse business processes and requirements to identify opportunities for improvements in data management and analytics.
  • Develop user stories, use cases, and functional requirements to describe data capture, processing, and analysis workflows.
  • Participate in gap analysis exercises to identify system shortfalls and support user acceptance testing for DMT solutions.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for the data catalogue, including data definitions, source information, and transformation rules.
  • Design and build content, metadata models, and workflows for the data catalogue.
  • Ensure key data governance documents, such as Business Glossary and Data Lineage, are integrated and effectively utilised within the DMT.
  • Support the development of business process and data lineage models, facilitating their use by Data Governance teams.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of training for Data Stewards on DMT and governance practices.
  • Automate reference list workflows and support the central repository, aligning with external data standards like SALI or NosLegal.
  • Participate in firm-wide data initiatives and projects to empower Data Stewards and improve data quality and accessibility.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex business requirements.
  • Knowledge of data management, governance, analytics best practices, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to bridge business and technical teams.
  • Proactive and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Business report writing skills, including drafting user stories, use cases, and functional requirements.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining data governance issues logs.
  • Knowledge of metadata management concepts, models, and standards is advantageous.
