Research Lead – SAAS Applications

The successful candidate will be expected to lead the SaaS research agenda by:

  • Creating a vision for research in the European SaaS space.
  • Defining the overall focus areas of SaaS coverage, which could include on-premise to SaaS migration, SaaS applications market dynamics, SaaS-related services, and other aspects.
  • Creating thought-leading topics and themes in the SaaS domain and produce or direct research papers covering the industry and its implications for vendors and end-user organizations.
  • Providing timely, insightful, and relevant commentary on industry events in Europe or that have European relevance.
  • Being a key face of coverage of SaaS in Europe, presenting on a variety of SaaS and general cloud topics at and external events and webinars.
  • Supporting business development initiatives. This is not a business development role, but it is essential that this leadership role liaises with sales and consulting teams to drive business.

This position is a senior role within the European ICT research team. We are therefore looking for a highly motivated individual who possesses outstanding knowledge of the European SaaS and/or wider cloud or business applications industry and has the ability to develop and communicate thought leading research to a wide community of vendors and end users.

You will have at least 10 years in an analyst role, or possibly in a vendor-based marketing or product management position. You will have a broad understanding of the entire SaaS and cloud industry in Europe, with deeper knowledge in one or more sub-domain areas (SaaS applications, SaaS vendor business models, etc.). You will be expected to have strong knowledge of SaaS market leaders, such as Salesforce, Workday, and ServiceNow, as well as knowledge on the broader cloud leaders such as Amazon Web Services, Google, and Microsoft.

This new role provides a bridge between Enterprise Applications and the cloud team, and there will be other collaborations with our Services, Application Development and Digital Sovereignty research areas.

The successful candidate will be someone who can demonstrate:

  • A vision for coverage of the SaaS area, including key segments of interest and potential customer propositions.
  • Experience in managing a small but expert group of individuals across multiple geographies.
  • Evidence of an ability to work collaboratively, possibly within a matrix organization.
  • A grasp of the importance of business development to the success of the team, and a willingness and ability to engage internally with sales and consultants and externally with prospective clients to drive business.
  • An understanding of the IT industry analyst world, either directly from an analyst background or in interactions with analysts, most likely in a vendor-based role.

Excellent presentation and written communication skills, and fluency in written and oral English are required: fluency in a second European language would be advantageous.
