Researcher – international law firm

Our client a leading international law firm have a vacancy for a Researcher in their Birmingham offices.  This role could be suitable for a newly qualified LIS graduate or someone with LIS/research experience gained from a professional services environment.

  • Carry out research in response to requests received from lawyers and business services professionals from around the global firm, using a range of legal, business and news information resources.
  • Provide a range of legal and business current awareness services, including automated alerts on companies, industries and legal topics.
  • Support our research skills training offering to lawyers and business services teams, and market the research teams services to the firm's professionals around the globe, including building a relationship with particular practice groups if required.
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of the Research Services presence on the firm's intranet, including research quick guides and training materials.
  • Assist with resource management as needed (eg. fulfilling password requests, raising queries with product vendors, maintaining accurate information on resources, as well as involvement in product evaluation, feedback and testing).
  • Share knowledge and learning at team meetings and on internal knowledge solutions such as team wikis and knowledge databases.
  • Support ongoing projects as required

In order to be suitable for this role candidates will have:

  • Keen interest and awareness of the commercial world, global business news and the legal sector.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Effective and efficient information retrieval skills.
  • Knowledge of a range of legal, business and news databases and resources, their functionality and content.
  • Experience of providing current awareness and alerting services.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to present accurate and complex research in a logical and fluent way. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent client care and customer service skill
