Principal Analyst, Cloud Services

This role would suit a candidate who enjoys working autonomously and being very involved in client engagement. Our client has a strong track record of building Analysts up to be recognised thought leaders in their specialism.

The company has carefully assembled a team of the world’s leading analysts, enabling it to offer unrivalled expertise in mobile devices, wearables, augmented and virtual reality, 5G networks, workplace transformation, artificial intelligence, software development and delivery, the connected home, network operators and the Internet of things, among other areas.

Our client’s products and services span four main areas:

  • Research and analysis — including quantitative research (such as market forecasts and surveys of technology buyers and users) and qualitative research (such as analysis of major industry events, technology suppliers and emerging market trends), delivered as written reports, blog posts and presentations.
  • Consulting services — producing custom research projects for clients, such as bespoke surveys, go to market strategies or competitor analysis.
  • Marketing services — helping clients articulate or amplify their marketing messages through thought leadership papers, presentations and related content.

Job Overview

As our client’s lead analyst for cloud services, you will have the opportunity to shape our organization’s research in this important field. In this role, you will be focussed on identifying future trends and themes affecting the cloud services market, from technology strategy to adoption, policy and ethics; you will produce unique content and work on exciting consulting engagements for many of the world’s leading technology firms.

Role and Responsibilities

Research and analysis

  • Conducting regular research on the cloud services sector, working independently in a dispersed team
  • Engaging in briefings with technology suppliers and attending physical and virtual events focussed on cloud, data, analytics and artificial intelligence
  • Creating and producing a regular series of insightful research reports covering vendor strategies and industry trends that are shaping the cloud services market, using primary and secondary research to meet publishing schedules
  • Creating and delivering presentations, webinars and strategy sessions on the cloud services market to clients, at client events and at external conferences
  • Answering client enquiries and ensuring their needs are met
  • Developing and managing survey-based user research into cloud services strategy and adoption
  • Providing input into other reports as required, including quarterly Instant Insights on financial results announcements, as well as our annual predictions
  • Collaborating with fellow analysts to shape the overall research agenda for cloud services
  • Contributing to various consulting projects in Our client’s enterprise research streams, such as white papers, client surveys and presentations

Required skills

We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual with a passion for cloud services and strong analytical, writing and presentation skills. A good mix of research and interpersonal abilities is important, as is the capacity to describe complex ideas and technology concepts in a straightforward way. The successful candidate will have a desire to learn about the future of cloud services, and will be able to work effectively in a diverse team of analysts and subject matter experts.

  • University degree in a subject that demonstrates analytical skills and an ability to learn fast
  • Five-plus years of relevant technology industry experience, including prior experience in an industry analyst role
  • The ability to present with confidence to senior leaders in technology firms as well as to IT professionals in organizations of all sizes
  • Industry knowledge of the cloud services sector
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including with customers
