Knowledge Lawyer –Technology & Sourcing Specialist

Our client’s combination of global insight and local knowledge allows them to handle complex transactions and multi-party, high-value project work across multiple jurisdictions.

The Tech & Sourcing team forms an important part of the international IPT practice which operates across more than 40 countries.

As part of the firm's commitment to quality, training and knowledge development, the Group is keen to recruit a Knowledge Development Lawyer on a permanent basis. This role will support the Tech & Sourcing practice and the wider IPT Group to maintain its profile with clients and in the market generally.

The purpose of the role is to:

• Support the Tech & Sourcing team across the international practice and in the UK.

• Support the IPT Group's overall business strategy and the firm's overarching Knowledge approach.

• Enhance the quality of the IPT team’s legal practice and to be a role model for technical knowledge, skill and advisory techniques in the Group.

• Work with the Head of Knowledge IPT to champion the firm's vision for Knowledge across the Group.

• Identify new products for clients and help to develop them.

• Assist in the development and presentation to clients of thought leadership.

The role will involve:

• Working closely with the Tech & Sourcing partners, the Head of Knowledge for IPT, the Tech Sector and our Marketing and Business Development function to identify issues affecting Tech & Sourcing clients and producing forward-thinking thought leadership and client alerts.

• Ensuring that lawyers are kept aware of legal, regulatory and commercial developments and providing analysis of the impact of significant developments and how they will affect the Tech & Sourcing practice’s clients and developing ideas as to the kinds of activities which the group should be undertaking to capitalise upon them.

• Capturing and promoting sharing of knowledge and expertise from the team’s lawyers.

• Supporting the existing training programme (internally and for clients), which will include preparing and updating training materials, delivery of some training sessions, and supporting fee earners to deliver training.

• Identifying, developing and maintaining the knowledge resources required for the Tech & Sourcing practice to deliver high-quality services to its clients efficiently, such as precedents, technical advice memos and practical know-how.

• Working closely with the central Knowledge Services team to ensure the Tech & Sourcing practice has access to the external databases and information resources it needs.

• Sharing Knowledge best practice and training across the Group internationally.

• Acting as a "sounding board” and supporting the Tech & Sourcing Partners as appropriate

 

Skills, experience and characteristics:

• Excellent academic credentials with a strong contract law background and several years’ experience practising as an IT lawyer, ideally in an international setting.

• Experience in regulatory compliance for technology contracts.

• Passionate about new technology with a genuine interest in one or more of the following areas: AI; digital evolution; Internet of Things; fintech and payments; the future of sourcing and re-platforming/enterprise cloud.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to connect, influence and collaborate at all levels in a multi-cultural environment across multiple geographies.

• Experience of developing knowledge resources (ideal but not essential) and delivering training.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to assess competing priorities and provide solutions to address them.

• Highly organised and able to co-ordinate and deliver projects.

• Pro-active and innovative. Ability to work with the partners, Knowledge and Marketing & Business Development teams to identify and develop new client products, insights and training.
