Knowledge Assistant - Law Firm - Birmingham

A permanent opportunity for a Knowledge Assistant has become available within one of the most successful law firms operating within the UK. This is a Birmingham based opportunity that would be extremely suitable for a graduate, and in particular, someone with a qualification with a library or information focus. In short, this role will play an important role in helping to maintain, support and develop a number of the firms KM products and will be the junior member of an established team. It would be a great opportunity for someone looking to get a foothold within a very specialist and in-demand profession.

The Knowledge Assistant will have the following responsibilities and objectives:

  • Supporting the delivery of current awareness services to practice groups and the wider firm
  • Undertake user and source administration, creating and editing searches and ensuring relevance of information held on the system  
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Knowledge presence on the firm's intranet
  • Uploading documents/URLs to the new Knowledge Management systems and adding commentary or additional information where necessary
  • Interacting with key stakeholders to check content accuracy and tagging
  • Reporting system issues and escalating as appropriate
  • Running regular reports on a variety of Knowledge products

To be a suitable applicant for the role, candidates will require the following skills, expertise and interests:

  • A demonstrable understanding of the role of Knowledge Management in a corporate or other business setting, this need only be theoretical
  • Ideally you will hold a relevant qualification such as Masters Degree in Library or Information Science, but this isn't a pre-requisite
  • Some previous experience in a corporate setting would be really useful
  • You will have an intellectually curious mindset and ideally be interested the law and current affairs
  • Strong communication, customer engagement and relationship building skills to engage with a variety of different stakeholders
  • An interest in learning about IT systems and a logical approach to solving problems
  • Alignment to the firms core values of teamwork, striving for excellence, client orientation and good citizenship
